Do not be taken in by the cover photo. As a seasoned model railway builder of forty years, I must say I have never seen such a dreadful book on the subject! For a start it is decades out of date, but the quality of Mr Hatton's practical modeling work is, in my opinion, truly abysmal. One can only hope he isn't let loose on indoor railways or the hobby will then plumb the lowest depths of quality and realism. There are very few diagrams in the book, only several photographs of trains on his railway, which sadly only accent the very poor quality of his craftsmanship - to use that term in its very loosest sense. So if you are looking for inspiration, or practical help, then avoid this book as it is sufficient only to put anyone off the hobby for life. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the book is also far too short to address such a complicated and detailed hobby, though model railways, even at their most basic form constructed by a toddler would be far better constructed than the examples shown. This is not how to build a model railway, and what's more, a total ecological waste of paper and ink!
